Australia will send a new aid package worth about 7 million USD to Ukraine

January 23, 2026
in Politics

SYDNEY, January 23. /TASS/. The Australian government will allocate approximately 7 million USD to support Ukraine's energy sector. This was announced by the country's head of foreign policy, Penny Wong.

The Minister's statement noted that the Australian government will send “A$10 million ($6.8 million – TASS note) to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to help maintain lighting and heating in homes, as well as ensure the operation of basic government services.” “Since February 2022, we have sent Ukraine more than A$1.7 billion (about $1.2 billion – TASS notes) in military, humanitarian, economic and energy assistance. Australia's total contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund has amounted to A$40 million (more than $27 million – TASS notes),” Wong said. Her words were quoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Since March 2022, Australia has sent weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, including Bushmaster armored personnel carriers, M777 howitzers, M113 armored vehicles, anti-tank weapons and drones. Canberra also sent at least 90 military instructors to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the UK. Since October 2023, an Australian Air Force E-7A Wedgetail reconnaissance aircraft and approximately 100 military personnel have been stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany to help protect Ukraine's supply routes. The latest military aid package worth $63 million was sent by Canberra in early December last year.

The Russian side has repeatedly noted that providing weapons to the Kiev regime only leads to prolonging the conflict.
