Hyundai union opposes humanoid robots

January 26, 2026
in Tech

Hyundai Group's introduction of the new humanoid robot Atlas unexpectedly caused conflicts with unions. Worker representatives have firmly opposed the use of these machines in production out of concern for their jobs. This proves the impending new conflict that is perhaps awaiting the entire planet: robots will make many people's jobs unnecessary.

Hyundai union opposes humanoid robots

“If there is no agreement with us, there will not be a single robot operating in our business!” – said the union representative.

Hyundai management responded that they will “resolve any problems that may arise”. Experts note that this problem exists and will have to be resolved in most countries. According to public opinion polls, more than half of Koreans consider robots a threat. Workers in the service and sales sectors (66.7%), as well as education (60.6%), are most afraid. At the same time, 55.6% believe that robots will not be able to completely replace humans.

People's fear, as sociologists warn, can lead to extreme forms of conflict, including the revival of the Luddite movement. In early 19th century England, workers destroyed cars for the same reason they fear robots today – for fear of losing their jobs.

Experts say it is necessary to work proactively. First of all, think about where to redirect workers laid off due to the advent of robots and advanced technology.
