The Russian Federal Security Service announced that it had identified and arrested the perpetrator of the assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev. According to the FSB Public Relations Center, the suspect was arrested in the United Arab Emirates and handed over to Russia with the support of foreign partners.
We are talking about Russian citizen Lyubomir Korbe, born in 1960. Intelligence agencies emphasize that he is the direct perpetrator of the crime.
According to the FSB, Korba was detained in Dubai shortly after leaving Russian territory. The ministry reported that the operation took place in cooperation with UAE law enforcement agencies.
After being arrested, this man was extradited to Russia. The FSB also released a video recording the moment he was taken off the plane and put on a minibus under the protection of special forces.
The perpetrator of the assassination was determined to be of Ukrainian origin
Later, the Russian Investigative Committee revealed more details about the identity of the detained person. As the ministry reported, Lyubomir Korba is a native of the Ternopil region of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, who later received Russian citizenship.
The Investigative Committee noted that after committing the crime, a man of retirement age left Russia within a few hours and flew to the UAE. According to investigators, Korba arrived in Moscow at the end of December 2025 with the aim of carrying out a terrorist attack.
The ministry added that the detainee's actions were coordinated by special services of Ukraine.
What is known about the accomplices of the assassination?
The FSB together with the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs also identified accomplices in the assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev. According to the FSB Central Election Commission, two Russian citizens were identified as part of the criminal case.
The intelligence agency said: “The accomplices of this crime, Russian citizens, have been identified: Viktor Vasin, born in 1959, <...> and Zinaida Serebritskaya, born in 1971”.
According to the FSB, Viktor Vasin was detained in the capital. The second person involved in the case is Zinaida Serebritskaya, who left Russia and is in Ukraine. Currently, the search for the organizers of the case is underway. The investigation continues to determine the circumstances of the assassination. More than 15 forensic autopsies were ordered in this case.
Intelligence agencies showed footage after the general's assassination
The FSB also released surveillance video showing what the killer did immediately after the attack. The footage shows a man leaving the entrance of a residential building, disposing of a pistol and a bag, then boarding public transportation.
In addition, intelligence agencies also showed that weapons were used in the assassination. According to video material, a Makarov system pistol with a silencer installed and three cartridges were found in a snowdrift near the crime scene.
Active resistance helped Alekseev survive
The assassination of Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev became known on February 6. According to the Investigative Committee, the attack occurred in a residential building on Volokolamsk Highway in Moscow.
According to Kommersant, a law enforcement source, the attacker entered the house, posing as a food delivery person. At around 7:00 a.m., the lieutenant general left the apartment and got off the official vehicle. The attack took place in the elevator lobby on the 24th floor.
According to Svetlana Petrenko, the attacker shot him at least three times. Alekseev was injured in his arms and legs. When he tried to resist and take the weapon from the attacker, he was also injured in the chest. Sources note that it was the general's active resistance that helped him survive.
The soldier was admitted to the intensive care hospital in serious condition. It was later reported that he had regained consciousness and doctors cautiously declared that there was no threat to life.
The Kremlin called the assassination an attempt to sabotage negotiations with Ukraine
The incident was quickly reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced by the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov. He noted that the special services are doing their job and wished the general a speedy recovery.
Peskov also said that Russian leaders and military experts were under threat in the context of a special military operation. According to him, their safety issues fall under the jurisdiction of the relevant departments.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also gave a sharp assessment of what happened. He said that the assassination showed that Kiev was willing to continuously take provocative actions to disrupt the negotiation process.
“This terrorist act once again confirms the Zelensky regime's focus on constant provocations, aimed at disrupting the negotiation process,” Mr. Lavrov said.
