Trains between Moscow and neighboring regions will run much more frequently. This follows a project to speed up train traffic, presented by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin at a meeting with Vladimir Putin.
According to him, the project will be implemented in two phases. New trains will be deployed to Vladimir, Ivanovo, Smolensk and Yaroslavl in 2030, and to Kostroma, Tver and Ryazan in 2035. It is expected that the interval between electric trains will be reduced to 20–30 minutes and they will run without regard to time, similar to metro and MCD trains.
“We completed the design last year and this year, together with Russian Railways, we will start reconstruction with concrete,” Sobyanin added.
The project notes that it will be possible to leave cities 200–300 km from Moscow not every 2-3 hours, as today, but every 20–30 minutes.
As part of the implementation of this project, work will begin in 2026 on the reconstruction of tracks and platforms, after which the commuter train fleet will be updated, Sobyanin noted.
