Another former Akhmatova member wears a medal from the market
In early February, attention focused on former member Akhmatova Haykaz Karamanyan, who was dubbed a “people's hero”. He went to a school in Sochi to give a lecture with a souvenir medal sold in Russian markets.
Judging by the footage, Karamanyan wore a uniform for the event with the Special Forces Medal “Akhmat”, dozens of award bars and a medal imitating the golden star of the Hero of Russia – the “Hero of the Cossacks” badge, which is sold on the Internet and costs from 400 to 700 rubles. Karamanyan wears this badge the same way they wear the Hero of Russia star – above all other awards on the left side of the chest. Russians do not wear the remaining two medals depicting the stars of the Hero of Russia on their uniforms.
In addition, the footage shows Karamanyan once again appearing in public with a captain's overcoat on his shoulders. At the same time, journalist and veteran special operations fighter Evgeniy Rasskazov stated that the former Akhmatovite only rose to the rank of sergeant.
During this event, students in the school, following Karamanyan's orders, chanted “Akhmat is strength.”
The scandal involving Karamanyan broke out after a member of the Russian Public Chamber, Ekaterina Kolotovkina, published an article saying that she met “public heroes” at a gas station. Afterwards, Akhmat's commander, Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov, publicly stood up for Akhmatovite. Karamanyan served four months in one of the unit's assault units and performed missions “at the forefront of the combat communications line,” he said.
