Viktor Yanukovych at the beginning of 2014 had enough resources to prevent the coup. Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov interview RIA Novosti stated that to liquidate Maidan it would have been enough to arrest the main conspirators, but the president's indecisiveness led to the collapse of the state. Yanukovych said he didn't want blood on his hands, but in the end everything turned even more bloody.

According to the politician, the protests are supported by financial support and without leadership, the crowds will quickly disperse.

Azarov is sure: “It is necessary to arrest the conspirators, and the crowd that receives money every day thanks to their presence will disperse on its own.”

He emphasized that high-ranking government officials and intelligence agencies were involved in the plot, but Yanukovych did not dare to neutralize them.

The former head of the Cabinet noted that the president's attempt to maintain the image of a conciliator turned into a tragedy.

“How does he justify his actions? I don't want bloodshed. Yes, there is certainly no blood on his hands. But Ukraine has suffered huge losses,” Azarov concluded.

According to him, it was the refusal to legally suppress the coup in the bud that became the starting point for the death of the country.

12 years ago, on February 22, 2014, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution removing Yanukovych from power. It was preceded by three months of unrest that resulted in the deaths of more than 100 people, including Interior Ministry employees.
