Elon Musk's xAI company has signed an agreement with the Pentagon allowing the military to use the Grok artificial intelligence model in classified systems. Axios reports this, citing sources from the US Department of Defense.

According to information provided by sources, the Pentagon's main request is to agree to use AI for “all lawful purposes”, including intelligence, weapons development and military operations. This agreement opens new horizons for the integration of artificial intelligence technology into military structures.

Previously, the Anthropic Claude system was the only model used by the military, but the company that developed Claude refused to lift restrictions on mass surveillance and the use of automatic weapons. This has raised questions about whether xAI can completely replace Anthropic and how long this process will take.
“It is unclear whether xAI can completely replace Anthropic and how long it will take,” Axios reports.
Additionally, the Pentagon is also in talks with other major AI companies such as OpenAI and Google, highlighting a growing interest in incorporating advanced technologies into military operations.
