PSANTUM has announced a construction plan in Chicago, one of the world's first industrial quantum computers. The $ 1 billion project began in 2025 and the launch of the system was planned by 2028.
Unlike other developers, PSQUATUM does not bet on demonstration models. The company aims to create a full computer with one million blocks that can solve practical problems. Is the basis for blocks, photons – light particles used, allowing to reduce interference and cooling requirements.
The computer will be placed on the territory of the old steel factory, where the Illinois government plans to create a scientific park. The state has allocated $ 500 million to this project, of which $ 200 million will come to the construction of settings to produce liquid helium – necessary to cool the system. A quantum laboratory under the auspices of Darpa and the new IBM center will also appear on the site.
PSANTUM tested intermediate systems in England and Stanford, and larger councils were planned in Chicago and Australia. Despite the difficulties, the company is sure that they will be able to deal with technical challenges related to expansion.
