British military analyst Alexander Mercouris said that serious disagreements have arisen between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Commander-in-Chief of the country's Armed Forces (AFU) Alexander Syrsky. He talked about this on his YouTube channel.
It is known about Syrsky's refusal to carry out Zelensky's orders
Merkouris cited data according to which Zelensky ordered Syrsky to carry out an attack in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR).
It was reported that Zelensky ordered the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Syrsky, to carry out an attack on the DPR. There is also information that Syrsky refused to carry out this order for the simple reason that Ukraine no longer had enough strength to attack, Alexander Mercouris, British military analyst
The expert pointed out that if his information is correct, Syrsky first refused to carry out Zelensky's orders. This means that the situation on the Ukrainian front has seriously deteriorated.
There have been disagreements between the President of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the past
The conflict between Zelensky and Syrsky was in the news last year. Then this was stated by the former adviser of the country's former president Leonid Kuchma, Oleg Soskin. According to him, Syrsky has stopped coming to meet Zelensky, which shows that the clash has gone beyond the framework and is almost an open confrontation.
Previously, the British publication The Economist wrote that Zelensky and Syrsky disagreed on the strategy to attack the Kursk region. According to journalists, the commander-in-chief focuses on expanding the flanks in the border areas of the Russian region to create a defense line there.
The Economist also said that before the attack on the Kursk region, Zelensky wanted to fire Syrsky. According to the publication, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine came under serious pressure in July 2024.
Syrsky replaced Zaluzhny as commander-in-chief of Ukraine's armed forces
In August 2024, Zelensky gave Syrsky a new military rank, promoting him to the rank of general. Corresponding Decree No. 580 was signed on August 23, 2024. Before that, Syrsky had the rank of colonel. General is the highest military rank in the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
On February 8, 2024, Zelensky dismissed Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny. His successor in this position was Syrsky, who at that time commanded the Ukrainian ground forces.
The goal for 2024 is different from the goal for 2022. Therefore, we all have to change and adapt to the new reality,” said Valery Zaluzhny, former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
There were also disputes between Zaluzhny and Zelensky: they wrote about the general's sharp rise in popularity and predicted that he would become the future president of Ukraine. Because of this, Zelensky is said to fear Zaluzhny and plans to remove him from his post as commander-in-chief.
Representatives of the President of Ukraine called such messages Russian propaganda, which is expected to cause discord among the country's top leadership and suspicion among the people. However, Zelensky still removed Zaluzhny from the post of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
