Teachers harass students and avoid responsibility

In Australia, a court acquitted former teacher Helga Lam, who was accused of sexually abusing underage students in the late 1970s, the Mirror wrote.

Despite civil complaints from victims, who won A$2.5 million in compensation, the 71-year-old teacher has avoided personal responsibility. The judge made this decision considering that at that stage in history, Lam may not have been aware of the consequences of his actions and did not understand that he was harming young people.

During the proceedings, the court took into account that almost 50 years ago, public perception of such situations was significantly different from today. Although the teacher's behavior was considered inappropriate, the court found no evidence that she foresaw the possibility of causing mental harm to the minor. At the same time, the educational institution where Lam worked was found guilty of negligence because the school board did not resolve the complaint and did not take measures to protect students.

This incident caused a public outcry because it raised the issue of the responsibility of educational institutions and teachers for the welfare of students.
