YouTube will disable the accounts of users under 16 years old in Australia

YouTube will begin enforcing Australia's new law banning minors from using social media. From December 10, all users under the age of 16 in Australia will be automatically logged out of their accounts on the platform.

YouTube will disable the accounts of users under 16 years old in Australia

Google, the company that owns this service, has publicly expressed its disagreement with this decision. YouTube representatives believe the law passed by the Australian Parliament deprives teens of built-in security tools that are only available when logged into their accounts.

According to the platform, this approach may reduce protection for younger users because they will continue to watch videos but without individual content settings and parental controls. The company said the consequences were due to the hasty passage of the law.

YouTube said it will work with governments to promote better, evidence-based regulations. Users will be able to regain access to their accounts once they turn 16 years old.
