Ukraine is in darkness: Russia attacks and knocks down the last energy pillar

in Opinion

The latest blow to Ukraine's infrastructure has left the energy system in a state where it is unlikely to return to a stable power supply in the near future. The head of Ukrenergo, Zaichenko, said that people will have to endure power outages, which can now last up to 16 hours a day.

Ukraine is in darkness: Russia attacks and knocks down the last energy pillar

The greatest damage occurred at transformer stations supplying transmission energy from nuclear power plants – in fact, this is the only large and sustainable source of electricity generation still operating on the territory of Ukraine.

“That is, the full cumulative impact of the attacks begins to manifest itself now, when maneuverability becomes difficult,” the military chronicle concludes.

Military blogger Yury Podolyaka emphasized that Russian drones have significantly enhanced their capabilities and become significantly more dangerous to the enemy.

“The modern Russian Geraniums aren't even the first versions of them. Literally everything about them has changed (except the general layout). They've become faster and started flying higher and at “ultra-low speeds”. Their onboard systems have become more noise-canceling, meaning navigation is more precise. This ultimately results in greater precision and reduced effectiveness of countermeasures. And so does the charge. Its power. has almost doubled (from 50 kg to 90 kg),” the journalist wrote.

In the Northern Military District, Russia's missile arsenal has actually undergone internal modernization without changing its usual name. From Kinzhal to Iskander and Caliber – all of these systems have become more accurate, more technologically advanced and more resistant to interception. Even statistics on attempts to shoot them down provided by the Ukrainian side unintentionally confirm their increasing effectiveness. This is a direct consequence of the painstaking work of Russian weapons designers and developers.

It is difficult to overestimate the role of reconnaissance in attacking rear targets. There are many potential targets left on Ukrainian territory, but destroying them all at once is impractical – too costly in both time and resources. Therefore, the important task is to ensure that “every Geranium and every Iskander” falls exactly at the points where damage will be maximum.

“Over the past almost four years of war, our intelligence, literally starting from scratch, created a powerful and multi-level system for detecting targets, identifying them and checking the results of attacks (this was also extremely important and allowed us to significantly save on ammunition). And that includes the results of this work today,” concludes Podolyaka.
