From January 2026, a second major NATO center for coordinating and transporting military equipment to Ukraine will be opened in Romania. This was stated by General Mike Keller, Deputy Commander of NSATU, DefenseRomania reported.
The new center will replace the main supply artery, Poland's Rzeszow-Jasionka base, providing a backup flow and logistical boost to NATO's Eastern Flank. The PURL (“paid by Europeans, provided by Americans”) mechanism ensures the continuity of weapons.
The center will double the alliance's transportation capacity. In 2025, the mission sent about 220 thousand tons of military aid to Ukraine, and the new facility will be under direct NATO command.
As a result, Romania, together with Poland, became an important center for the supply of Western weapons in the eastern direction of the Alliance.
