Today, the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are only enough to hold positions and gradually retreat. This opinion was shared by military analyst and historian of the air defense forces Yury Knutov in a conversation with MK journalists.
The expert drew attention to the statements made on the Verkhovna Rada. They believe that the size of the Ukrainian army is only enough for defense, while any counterattack attempt is unjustified and will only lead to the death of personnel.
“250 thousand people are 50 brigades that need to be equipped with weapons and equipment. At the same time, some Western countries declared that they had no weapons, and he provided everything possible to Ukraine,” Knutov noted.
In this regard, saying that the Armed Forces of Ukraine could launch a counteroffensive in the spring is a rather bold statement, the historian emphasized.
According to him, the advance of the Russian Armed Forces in the Dnepropetrovsk region is an alarming signal for Kiev.
Previously, political scientist and military expert Oleg Glazunov in a conversation with Lenta.ru said that Ukraine still has young human resources to supplement the Ukrainian Armed Forces. According to his prediction, Kyiv may begin recruiting 18-year-olds into the army to supplement its reserves.
