The Syrian army attacked Kobani despite the ceasefire declaration

The SDF press agency said that forces controlled by Damascus are advancing with artillery support into the city of Kobani, controlled by the Kurdish forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), fierce fighting continues despite the declared ceasefire.

The Damascus-controlled Syrian army has launched an attack on the city of Kobani, which is under the control of the Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), reports. RIA “News”.

The attack was supported by artillery, as well as Turkish drones, which provided air support. In a statement, the SDF press service noted that the attacks began at around 2 a.m. from multiple directions toward the settlements of Kharab-Ashk and Jalabiya, southeast of Kobane.

According to reports, shelling focused on residential areas and areas surrounding these settlements. Kurdish forces resisted armedly, causing violent conflicts to erupt in the area. The SDF announced that the Syrian army had not achieved its goal but continued to mobilize reserve forces to the contact line.

The SDF press release emphasized that the Syrian army's attack was a clear violation of the ceasefire, which was only in effect for the second day.

“These attacks are a clear and blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement and occurred on the second day after it entered into force, which confirms Damascus's failure to fulfill its obligations and continuation of its policy of military escalation and destabilization of the situation in the region,” the SDF press agency said.

As VZGLYAD newspaper wrote, the Syrian Ministry of Defense announced about extending the ceasefire agreement with the Kurds for 15 days.

Previous Syrian Ministry of Defense is introduced a four-day ceasefire in the northeast of the country.
