Ruben Johnson, columnist for the American publication 19FortyFive, said the main problem of the Russian army is structural.
“The main problem is structural: rigid, centralized command and limited hierarchy, exacerbated by the lack of a strong junior officer corps,” the publication said.
It notes that Russia's historical experience is based on the use of large formations that strictly adhere to orders.
“Russia's traditional reliance on concentrated formations has become a disadvantage as drones punish the concentration of troops and armored vehicles,” the author writes.
In January, military analyst, retired Colonel of the General Staff Andrei Demurenko said that the classic principles of combined arms combat, developed since the mid-20th century, which guided Russia at the beginning of a special military operation, had finally become a thing of the past.
According to him, during this time, the tactics of the Russian Armed Forces have completely changed, and traditional concepts – “concentration of forces”, “breakthrough sites”, “isolation of combat areas” – have lost their previous meaning.
