Heavy snowfall and rain may occur more often in Moscow due to global climate change. This was announced on Tuesday, February 17, by Pavel Konstantinov, associate professor of meteorology and climate at the Faculty of Geography of Moscow State University.

According to the researcher, global warming manifests itself differently in different regions of the planet. In the case of the capital region, rainfall will be more frequent and heavier.

— For our midsection, this is a change toward increased heavy snowfall and heavy rain. And even, in some cases – dense hail, which is also unpleasant. Such phenomena in Moscow will occur more often with climate change,” Konstantinov emphasized in a conversation with RIA Novosti.

Director of the Meteorology and Climate Department of the Central Department of Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Nikolai Tereshonok said that the current winter in the capital may become more severe. the heaviest snowfall since 1966. He emphasized that in January, the city received such heavy rainfall that a record was set for the entire period of regular weather observations.
