The winter season of the annual all-Russian population census “Sparrows in the Bush” will take place in Moscow from February 7 to 15. Anyone over the age of 5 can participate, the press service of the capital's Department of Natural Resources and Environment said.
“This is a large-scale educational and environmental event where every city resident can feel like a scientist,” the message reads.
Moscow residents will be able to learn to distinguish the types of sparrows living in urban areas, and a special technique will help to estimate their approximate number.
To get in on the action, city dwellers will need to find birds in parks, in yards or on the streets, count their numbers, memorize or save the location's coordinates, and then take photos or short videos of the birds. Then you need to fill out the form at website project.
The promotion is also applicable at ecological centers of the Moscow Ministry of Nature.
