The snowiest winter in at least 30 years The Capital Region, after heavy snowfall in early January, was hit by a strong tornado. A quarter of the monthly rainfall fell in one day – a new record. The snowstorm started just after midnight the night before. By morning, up to 13 cm of snow had accumulated. Columns of special equipment were brought in to clean up the drifts.

In Moscow, the penultimate level of weather danger was declared – orange. Snowmobiles were even noticed in the vestibules of electric trains going in the direction of Yaroslavl.
Forecasters made a very specific forecast: snowfall will last at least until Thursday, and in three days about 84% of the monthly rainfall will fall on the capital. Motorists are asked to leave their personal vehicles at home and temporarily switch to public transport so as not to hinder snow removal staff.
