Metro staff will have the right to check passengers' smartphone functionality, but not their correspondence, photos and apps. State Duma Deputy Oleg Leonov told about this.

The State Duma explains the checking of smartphones in the Moscow metro

According to him, subway security officers do not have the right to view passengers' letters, photos and applications on their phones.

“This contradicts the Constitution (of the Russian Federation),” the MP said.

He added that checking smartphone functionality in the subway, like airport screening, is aimed at ensuring security.

Leonov believes it is impossible to check all passengers, especially during rush hour. So the phone will be checked randomly, similar to checking luggage.

On February 2, the press service of the capital's metro said that checking mobile phones of passengers in the Moscow metro can be used in conjunction with existing security measures, if necessary.

Previously, there was information that in St. Petersburg, they started asking people to turn on their devices during searches in the metro.

Previously, Turkish Airlines banned passengers from carrying “smart” suitcases.
