VISHAKHAPATNAM /India/, November 15. /TASS/. Russia and India are looking for opportunities to expand cooperation in the field of railway engineering. Head of the Russian Federation delegation, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Alexey Gruzdev spoke to reporters on the sidelines of the international business forum “Partnership Summit”.

He gave the example of Russia-India cooperation in producing the Vande Bharat high-speed train. Gruzdev emphasized: “We are talking about a large joint project based on Russian technology with consistent localization of automobile production in India. In the future, an industrial cluster will be formed on the basis of the project.”

Russian-Indian enterprise Kinet operates in India for the production of electric trains. It was established after Russia's largest rolling stock manufacturer TMH won an international tender worth $6.5 billion for the development, production and 35-year servicing of 1,920 Vande Bharat long-distance tram coaches with three classes of service. Indian state-owned company Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) became the partner of the joint venture implementing the project.

The Indian railway network is one of the most extensive and the fourth largest in the world. In the financial year 2022-23, Indian Railways' passenger count grew by over 80 per cent, reaching 6.23 billion compared to 3.44 billion in the financial year 2021-22. By 2047, Indian Railways expects to become a global leader in rail transport, driving economic growth and improving people's quality of life.
