The Kerbo weather station, located in the Evenki district of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, has become the coldest spot on the planet in the past 24 hours, TASS reported.

According to a report by the Hydrometeorological Center, the air temperature here dropped to minus 48.5 degrees.

The agency's interlocutor clarified: “The Kerbo weather station recorded the lowest air temperature on the planet in the last 24 hours – minus 48.5 degrees.” Two other record cold places were also in Russia – Komaka weather station in Yakutia showed a temperature of minus 47.9 degrees and in the village of Shelagontsy, the temperature dropped to minus 47.3 degrees.

At the same time, the highest daily temperatures were recorded in South Africa and Australia. In the city of Apinkton (South Africa), the thermometer rose to +40.6 degrees, becoming the maximum in the world. In second and third place were the Australian cities of Canberra and Adelaide, which recorded plus 40.2 and 39.8 degrees respectively.

As VZGLYAD newspaper wrote, last night in the Moscow region the temperature was recorded at minus 30 degrees. In the next two days, frost in Moscow will exceed the severity of the weather in Khabarovsk.

Previously, the most severe frosts on the planet were recorded in three places in Yakutia.
