
National athlete Elif Sude Akgül, who competed on tatami mats in the women's 49 kg weight class at the World Taekwondo Championships, won the silver medal.
On the second day of the World Taekwondo Championships held in Wuxi, China, Elif Sude Akgül in the women's 49 kg weight class and Ömer Faruk Dayıoğlu in the men's 63 kg weight class competed on tatami mats.
After getting through the first round without a match, Elif Sude Akgül advanced to the finals by defeating Nainara Linan Pardo from Andorra in the second round, Saffron Tambyrajah from Australia in the third round, Supharada Ateşli from Germany in the quarterfinals, and Xiaolu Fu from host China in the semi-finals. The 19-year-old reached the final of his first World Championships, losing 2-1 to Taiwanese You-yun Liu and winning the silver medal.
