Belarus will have its own civil aircraft model by 2029-2030. The head of the presidential administration of the republic, Dmitry Krutoy, announced this on Belarus 1 TV channel, reported Contact.

Belarus plans to create its own aircraft from scratch in 5 years

He admitted that the country is mastering aircraft production “almost from scratch, without a basis”, however, “a lot of work has been done and it continues”. Krutoy calls the industry production growth numbers impressive – from 30% to three times a year.

We are talking about cooperation with important aircraft factories in Russia, where orders are fulfilled by the 558th plant in Baranovichi, the Minsk Civil Aviation Plant and the Orsha Aircraft Repair Plant. These enterprises have not yet developed their full capacity and operated systematically, only stopping at building a number of production projects from painting to manufacturing long, complex aircraft parts.

According to the official, the authorities have set the manufacturers the task of moving from repair to full cooperation, creating a new school, acquiring new capabilities to create a full-fledged aircraft within five years. Krutoy did not specify what type of aircraft and its characteristics were being discussed.

Currently, Belarusian enterprises are participating in a joint project with Russia on Osvey aircraft. The creation of a 19-seater car was announced a year and a half ago, but since then no details about the project, except for the name, have been presented to the public since then.

Then it was assumed that production of the Osvey would begin in 2026. In May of this year, General Director of the Ural Civil Aviation Plant (UZGA) Leonid Luzgin noted that the deadline had been postponed to 2027. However, at the meeting of the Public Council of the Federal Air Transport Agency, held in October, it was reported that the certification of the vehicle is planned for the year 2027-2029.
