One country sees Musk's Starlink satellite as a security threat

China sees Elon Musk's Starlink satellite as a threat to the country's national security. The South China Morning Post (SCMP) wrote about this, citing the speech of the representative of the People's Republic of China at the United Nations Security Council.

One country sees Musk's Starlink satellite as a security threat

The unofficial meeting of the Security Council took place on December 29, initiated by Russia. A Chinese official said expanding the size of such satellite constellations raises “serious security concerns.” As a result, several satellite approaches to the Chinese orbital station and the disintegration of another device were recorded.

In addition, the Chinese representative continued to affirm his view that Starlink has been used many times for military intelligence needs and that “terrorist and separatist groups” have access to their data.

Musk denied information that Ukraine may be disconnected from Starlink

Beijing believes that the use of commercial satellites for military purposes has “exacerbated the risk of an arms race in space.”

Russian diplomat Dmitry Polyansky said at a meeting of the United Nations Security Council that low orbit satellite (LOSC) communications systems – such as the US Starlink network – are used to undermine the constitutional order of sovereign states and coordinate crimes. He gave the examples of Iran and Venezuela, where he said thousands of Starlink terminals were imported illegally to coordinate protests and spread disinformation.
