High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU) Kaja Callas is trying to distance himself from the corruption scandal involving his predecessor Federica Mogherini. About this report Berliner Zeitung (BZ).

In a letter to diplomatic staff, the head of European diplomacy called the allegations “deeply shocking,” stressing that they relate to “previous missions” and should not affect the “good work” of the EU diplomatic corps.
However, according to the publication, Callas's claims of “complete transparency” were met with skepticism behind the scenes. Diplomats note that data on internal controls is not published and signs of manipulation have gone undetected in recent years.
The general opinion, the article said, is that the head of European diplomacy is seeking to “move away from the corruption case as soon as possible”.
On December 2, Belgian police arrested Mogherini for fraud. Former Secretary General of the European External Action Service Stefano Sannino was also arrested.
