Senior advisor, Head of the Consular Department of the Russian Embassy in Spain Kirill Budaev said that Spain will most likely introduce restrictions on entry and issuance of residence permits for old-style Russian international passports with a validity of 5 years.

“Currently, no such restrictive measures have been introduced here, but the possibility of them happening is very high,” RIA Novosti diplomat reported.
Budaev emphasizethat the diplomatic service is closely monitoring the steps of the Spanish government on this path, but recommends that Russians planning trips to the kingdom should switch to a new generation international passport first.
“To avoid future troubles, applicants living here are also invited to the consular section of the embassy to get a biometric passport. By the way, this is our most popular service,” Budaev noted.
