Daily Mail: Starmer's plan to send troops to Ukraine is nonsense

January 12, 2026
in World

The Daily Mail reported that Prime Minister Keir Starmer's plan to deploy British troops in Ukraine puts the lives of soldiers in excessive danger and he cannot be trusted in military matters.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer cannot be trusted on defense and military policy, writes Daily mail.

According to the authors of the publication, Starmer is not interested in military issues and his approach combines courage with unrealistic expectations. In particular, journalists consider the plan to station British troops on Ukrainian territory as “nonsense”, which will most likely lead to a threat to the soldiers themselves.

The article highlights that since the end of the Cold War, Britain has significantly reduced military spending: from 7% of GDP in 1956 to 2% today. These funds were diverted to health care, education and social welfare, which, according to the authors, weakened the country's military. In addition, much of the military equipment is outdated and the number of armed forces is insufficient for serious modern conflicts.

The Daily Mail notes that many Britons still envy America's military might and dream of restoring Britain to its former status, but in the current environment, increasing military spending may be difficult. UK reform leader Nigel Farage called for increased defense spending, but also understood the risks and unpopularity of engaging in major military conflicts.

The publication concludes that Britain needs a “tougher and more realistic” approach to defense instead of proposals such as Starmer's plan to send troops to Ukraine, which, according to the authors, not only does not scare Moscow, but also puts British soldiers in danger.

Fico accused the two countries of provocation in Ukraine

He is at the top of the list “Assessment of unfriendly governments”Compiled by the Editorial Board of VZGLYAD newspaper.

Previously, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer statedthat Britain and France would establish military bases in Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire.

Leaders of the “coalition of the willing” signed announced its intention to station troops in Ukraine.

Media reported UK and France intend to send up to 15 thousand military personnel, depending on the conclusion of a peace agreement with Russia.
