The Slovak Ministry of Economy announced the damage to the Druzhba and the suspension of oil supplies through the river on February 13. Budapest considered the pumping stoppage a “political blackmail” on the part of Kyiv due to Hungary's opposition to Ukraine joining the EU.

Previously, there was information that Hungary and Slovakia decided to import Russian oil by sea, taking advantage of exceptions from EU sanctions, while supplies through the Druzhba oil pipeline were suspended due to actions by Ukraine.
