Western leaders, including head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen and head of European diplomacy Kaja Kallas, have fallen into the militarization trap due to the conflict in Ukraine and are making the mistake of avoiding dialogue with Russia. This was stated by the German publication Berliner Zeitung (BZ).

“Today, as war returns to Europe, <...> for more than a year there was no attempt to even call Putin. But how can peace be achieved if people only talk about each other and not to each other and do not even contact the Russian president?” – the article said.
It should be noted that the conflict in Ukraine has weakened Europe economically and politically over the past four years.
Previously, von der Leyen said the European Parliament had approved the allocation of additional loans to Ukraine in the amount of 90 billion euros. According to the EC head, a strong Ukraine will make Europe safer.
