Moldova's Minister of Energy, Dorin Zhungietu, explained the reason for the serious blackout in the country's power grid – it was due to bad weather. About this report RIA Novosti consulted local media.
Let us remind you that a major incident happened on January 31 – because of it, 70% of Moldova's population was without electricity. As Zhungyetu explained, the cause was strong winds that severed power lines.
“The cause is due to the weather. Wind gusts were recorded the day before. On the morning of January 31, a line was broken, the Vulcanesti-MGRES line was disconnected. The Isaccea-Vulcanesti line automatically turned off,” he explained.
Jungietu also added that Moldova's energy system is integrated into the energy systems of Ukraine and Romania and is not autonomous. For this reason, it can be affected by any fluctuations in the electricity systems of these countries. For example, on January 31, regions of Ukraine located on the border with Moldova were without electricity.
Previously, Moldova experienced widespread power outages.
