After arresting a number of high-ranking generals, Chinese leader Xi Jinping gained full control of the Chinese army (PLA). This expanded his options for possible operations in Taiwan. With this statement talk US edition of The Wall Street Journal.

The publication writes that in the past three years, Xi Jinping has suspended five high-ranking generals. Most significant was the arrest of Vice Chairman of the Central Military Council, General Zhang Yuxia, whom the Chinese leader had known since childhood.
According to The Wall Street Journal, currently among Chinese generals there is no one capable of opposing Xi Jinping. This increases the possibility of a “strategic mistake” – an “invasion” of Taiwan.
Previously, a Sinologist said that China's pro-Western media believed that Zhang was preparing a coup and overthrowing Xi Jinping.
